Phobia \ˈfō-bē-ə\ noun: an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation.
Kabourophobia: fear of crabs.
[I am having such a hard time while writing this with that crab staring at me!!]
When I grew up I didn’t have any phobias. I was around 13 when it all started.
We took a family trip to the beach. It was a little bit overcast but both my mom and I decided to sun tan. I think I fell asleep. When I opened my eyes I looked up searching for my dad and siblings, once I had them in sight I layed down again.
We were surrounded by crabs! Tons of them! If this had happened in the cartoon they’d have carried us to their lair! Or whatever you call a crab’s house, nest or that thingymadoodle.
Crabs were staring at me like I was some sort of strange crustacean. Maybe they thought I was really cute or, maybe, they were just hungry.
Of course I freaked out! I mean those things were licking their eyes! (They get one eye in their mouth) I got laughed at for saying that they lick their eyes…like I am some kind of mad scientist who spends too much time with her pet crabs.
Up to this day, and even after I’ve eaten crab (I love sushi), I still fear them! To the point where if Ty buys crab for himself and he puts it in the fridge, I can’t open it! I have to ask him to do it for me! And the worst is when I do not know there is crab in the fridge! Ty caught up pretty fast, and he once took the crab out of the bag and didn’t tell me it was in the fridge! SCARY!!
Do you have any phobias?
