Phobia \ˈfō-bē-ə\ noun: an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation.

Kabourophobia: fear of crabs.

[I am having such a hard time while writing this with that crab staring at me!!]

When I grew up I didn’t have any phobias. I was around 13 when it all started.

We took a family trip to the beach. It was a little bit overcast but both my mom and I decided to sun tan. I think I fell asleep. When I opened my eyes I looked up searching for my dad and siblings, once I had them in sight I layed down again.

*Double take*

We were surrounded by crabs! Tons of them! If this had happened in the cartoon they’d have carried us to their lair! Or whatever you call a crab’s house, nest or that thingymadoodle.

Crabs were staring at me like I was some sort of strange crustacean. Maybe they thought I was really cute or, maybe, they were just hungry.

*Staring contest*

Of course I freaked out! I mean those things were licking their eyes! (They get one eye in their mouth) I got laughed at for saying that they lick their eyes…like I am some kind of mad scientist who spends too much time with her pet crabs.

Up to this day, and even after I’ve eaten crab (I love sushi), I still fear them! To the point where if Ty buys crab for himself and he puts it in the fridge, I can’t open it! I have to ask him to do it for me! And the worst is when I do not know there is crab in the fridge! Ty caught up pretty fast, and he once took the crab out of the bag and didn’t tell me it was in the fridge! SCARY!!

Do you have any phobias?

I am DEATHLY afraid of worms. Yes worms. Let spiders, snakes, etc crawl all over my body – no problem…but I cannot go outside when it rains if there are worms out. Thus, I do not garden. Crazy,eh?

woah! Totally afraid of spiders of any form. I hate squishing them and feeling their bodies crunch under shoes. I have to let my husband do it or I freak out.

Ok, I don’t even like to type about this but I have real problems with m-i-c-e. Let’s not talk about them anymore. I also have a sillier and less severe fear of getting the mail. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I have my husband do it. I’m always scared there’s going to be a severed limb in there or something. Bizarre, I know!

I can handle spiders, roaches, and just about anything, but SNAKES! My grandmother created that fear in me as child, and it has never left…when even see one, I get hysterical.
