I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Alexander decided he was done, I mean DONE, with nursing. And he was only 8 months old! I got traded for non other than apple juice.

I have never seen a baby holding the bottle like that!!

I kept offering him but he pushed me away. I must say that I got a bit upset about it. My baby was letting go. He did not need me in that way anymore.

He has always been such an independent little boy.

A few days after he weaned himself, Tyler and I went to Vegas with some friends to celebrate Uncle Tim’s 30th birthday so he got to stay over at Grandma’s for the weekend.

You know that phrase “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”? Well it is not always true. What happened in Vegas has been living with us for the past 8 months! We call him Jaco.

Jaco has been a little more attached to us, specially me. His starting to let go as well. He is trying to be more independent. He doesn’t like his walker now. All he wants to do is walk and play. And he is such a foodie!

Last week we started our weaning process. So far, so good. We went to 2-3 feedings at night to none. Last night Jake slept the whole night for the first time ever! Felt so good. He even felt good.

Step one down. Still working on step two. I only nurse twice now. He doesn’t ask but if I offer he’ll gladly take it. It feels liberating but I will miss it oh so much.

Now we need to start working on his sippy cup skills. This might be a tough one. I’ve been offering him a sippy cup (which leaks like crazy) for a while now but he keeps chewing on it. Same with his pacifier. Never got the hang out of that thing.

I am now on the look for the perfect starter sippy cup for My Jaco. Any suggestions?  ‘Cause the one he is using on this photo started leaking from the bottom and had to be sent to recycling.

I also have one of those who is having issues with the sippy cups. I guess it’s normal. She has tried them ALL and will only take one kind.

It really is kind of saddening when they decide to do things themselves. It’s hard to let go.

Wierd. As I was typing this, your comment on my page came in on my phone.

Thanks for visiting me, i didn’t see you among my followers..
Anyways, this is a bit ‘too coincidental’ but
    – my son weaned off just like yours, just refused and turned away at 8 months!!
    – my son’s name is Alexander;
    -my name is Sofia.

Isn’t that cool:) Following you now, come and follow me too, k? 🙂

We used the Munchkin Sippy cup with our little one. It looks more like a bottle than a sippy cup. Here’s a link so you can see what I’m talking about: http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Mighty-Spill-Proof-Sippy/dp/B001THVDSQ. But you have to make sure you get the nipple on it just right, otherwise it does leak.

Anyway, I’m stopping by from MBC and I’m your newest follower! Please stop by and check out my blog: http://www.thecakeathomemom.com

I enjoyed reading this post, I was just wondering do you ever trade featured posts? I’m continuously trying to find somebody to make trades with and merely thought I might ask.
