As you all must know by now, we have two crazy little boys that are very close in age. A. is 3 years old and J. is 20 months old…which means he will turn 2 in 4 months! Oh my…
I never really talked about pregnancy with my parents so when I got pregnant with A. I learned a lot by researching, and by ‘research’ I mean pestring my best friend who was studying to be a doctor back then (now she is an intern and all that cool stuff!). So if I ever had a question I’d simply ask her.
Tyler wasn’t so lucky and did have to do some research. One of his friends gave him a book: ‘What to expect when your wife is expanding’. He did not want me to read it but I did and I thought it was hilarious! Great insight of a man’s point of view.
I was so busy working and being nauseous that I really did not read a lot of pregnancy books. Whenever I had free time I slept, but one book that I did read ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’, aka America’s pregnancy bible. This book, in its fourth edition, is filled with the most up-to-date information about not only what is new in pregnancy, but what’s relevant to pregnant women. Tons of helpful hints, tips and humor.
It was nice to have a reference guide since doctor’s won’t really explain everything that happens and why it does, unless, of course, you ask.
I often look back to my pregnant days and think to myself “well, that was easy” and I stand tall and feel cool…while in the background you can see popcorn flying from corner to corner, the dog’s barking and the boys are jumping off the wall while someone’s singing on the Disney Channel…I have not read ‘What to Expect the Second Year” but it would have come in handy a year ago! The infamous terrible twos came in early with A. like 6 months early! And J., well he is starting to not need mommy as much. His terrible twos are just around the corner. Now seems the perfect time to go find a good hiding spot!
Still, the years that scare me the most are the teenage days…man am I already growing gray and green hairs by just thinking of it!! Two teenager boys in my house…I’ll need a huge fridge and an even bigger pantry. Stinky shoes, know it all attitudes…I think I’ll never come out of my hiding spot!!
Unfortunately there’s no What to Expect when you have a know-it-all kid at home book…could anyone write, please!? (P.S. I do love my boys though, they are awesome!).
