Mommy’s Favorite Kid Shows

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

I am a cartoon addict. You could easily find me watching cartoons over any reality show, magazine show, or practically anything else on tv.

With two boys at home cartoons are always a go when they are getting frazzled or they need some quiet time (aka, when mommy needs some peace and quiet at home). Most times I am cringing on my seat thanks to the annoying show tunes. But there are some shows that I truly embrace, I grab a cup of coffee, and cuddle on the couch with my boys to watch along.

These are mommy’s favorite kids’ cartoons, currently on tv:

Pocoyo

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

Pocoyo is a Spanish pre-school animated series. What I love about Pocoyo is the simplicity on the show. The background is white while all the characters are quite colorful which makes kids focus on them and not on the surroundings and backgrounds.

Pocoyo is so cute, curious, bouncy and quite smart. On every episode he learns something new and so do kids along with him. With Pocoyo kids learn about friendship, sharing, caring, and so many social and emotional skills they need to learn in able to go out into the world.

The characters do not speak in this series. Every episode is narrated (in English by Stephen Fry, yeah!) and the character simply interact with the narrator through nods and gestures.

Wonder Pets

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

Wonder Pets is an American animated series. It takes 33 weeks to make one single episode!! That is hard work!

These 3 little elementary aged animals, Linny the guinea pig, Tuck the turtle, and Ming-Ming the duckling, teach kids little facts on every single one of their adventures. They also teach kids about teamwork, which is extremely important and will come in very handy once they go to school (and in daily life as well).

Their tunes, though repetitive, are cute! Their opening song is my favorite:

The phone. The phone is ringing.
The phone. We’ll be right there.
The phone. The phone is ringing.
There’s an animal in trouble.
There’s an animal in trouble.
There’s an animal in trouble somewhere.

Also can’t forget the very cute “This is see-wee-ous”!

Phineas and Ferb

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

Been a fan of Phineas and Ferb from the very beginning. At times I think I enjoy this show more than my own kids do! The premise of the show is simple: during summer break, Phineas and Ferb embark on on new projects every day which Candace makes her purpose in life to bust them for (and of course Linda, their mom, doesn’t believe her). The second plot of the series showcases Perry, aka Agent P., the boys’ paltypus and his nemesis Dr. Doofenshmirtz who calls himself an evil genius.

What makes this show fun is the idiotic projects that are so farfetched from reality. The characters are likable. Plus both plots always intertwine, whatever the boys project is that day has something to do with Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s evil plot, and vice versa.

Although there is not much to teach, except for creativity, the show is fun and entertaining, two things that we sometimes need to help us clear our minds.

The Fresh Beat Band

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

The Fresh Beat Band is not only one of my favorites but it is A.’s too. Often he’ll cometo me saying as he beat boxes or does some crazy dance move “mommy look at me, I’m like Twist”, which makes this show even more special to both of us. It is great to see that your kid relates to someone that is successful and gets so excited when he can do the same thing their role model does.

The show is based around 4 best friends (Shout, Twist, Marina, and Kiki) who go to music school together and love to sing and dance.

Every episode is filled with up beat music. My favorite has to be “Go Bananas”, hands down! At the beginning of the show they come upon a problem that needs to be solved (insert song). Together they work to solve the problem. Each episode concludes with a version of The Fresh Beat Band’s closing song, “Great Day”.

It is fun, silly, upbeat, and my boys love it. And unlike many other shows they are far from annoying! And I was quite sad to see the original Marina go. Still trying to get used to the new Marina, I do like her, but I miss Shayna Rose.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

From PDX with Love // Mommy's Favorite Kid Shows

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is a brand new show created by The Fred Rogers Company, and airs on PBS.

This show is cute and I love what they teach. The very first episode we watched they talked about separation anxiety by saying that grown ups come back. In order to have kids remember this they sing a repetitive song about the issue. LAter on the day I hear my 4 year old singing grownups come back, and then looking at me he asked: “right, mom?”. The show we saw yesterday talkeda bout going potty, flush, wash, and you are on your way. Silly little daily things that kids remember thanks to the songs Daniel and his friends sing.

My boys love this show. Actually, they love it so much that they’ll drop whatever they are doing, they start screaming to their top of their lungs “that’s my favorite show, mommy! That’s my favorite show!”. They then run to the couch and the house is completely quiet for 25 minutes!

Which of your kid’s shows do you enjoy watching?

I fully agree with your pix, and would like to add Arthur. We don’t have cable, but when we were in Wyoming I loved The Regular Show and Gumball (probably not for toddlers!)

I’ve heard of one of these before…Phineas and Ferb, but never heard of the others. It’s hard to find quality television for little kids because you just don’t know how moral and/or decent the show will be unless you have someone else you trust giving you some opinions or information on the show. Thanks for posting.

My toddler likes Pocoyo but doesn’t really care for the other shows. She loves Yo Gabba Gabba and it’s a show that we don’t mind watching with her.
