Collections. Silly or not?

I have always wanted to start a collection. Yesterday, it finally hit me: I already have the perfect collection in the entire wide world. Yeah, it is not the biggest collection of vintage cameras, that would be awesome, but sadly untrue (in my case, that is).

What makes these plastic guys so special? Well, let me share with you! Seven years ago Tyler and I moved to Vancouver, BC so that we could live together (long story on why we didn’t move to the US, maybe some other day). We moved into The Electra building which is two blocks away from Robson St, which so happens to be the street you want to get all your Christmas shopping done!

Along Robson St is Milestones Restaurant & Grill. Every now and then we would go and have dinner there, specially when we had family visiting.

Silly Collections

So, where do the silly figurines come into play? Every time we would go eat there I would order a Bellini (or maybe two) and each drink would have one of the silly figurines on it! I started keeping them in my purse. It took forever to get a glance of every single piece. But I started getting doubles.

It wasn’t until my mother in law mentioned my attempt of getting my hands on every single plastic animal to one of the waitresses. I can still remember the huge smile on her face and how fast he disappeared into the kitchen!

She brought me all the ones I was missing. I honestly felt like a little girl!!

And as I wrote this post and visited Milestones’ website I realized that I so have to go back to Vancouver and get my hands on the rest of the guys!! They have a Rudolf now!! I NEED RUDOLF!!

Do you have any collections? Do share!
If not, what would you collect?

I think it’s a wonderful collection….great story behind them :-) I have a few of these plastic figures in my collection….no story behind them….I just like small things to put on my printers drawer shelves…my collections are vast and many….not just one particular thing

I have a collection of travel jewelry. Every trip I take I pick up a little piece of jewelry – they remind me of all my fun travels!

I love the bellini’s at Milestone’s! I used to go there a lot when I lived in Calgary. If I still lived near one, I’d send you the newest additions!

When my husband and I first got married, we discussed needing to start a collection of some sort. We are boring and settled on fridge magnets lol. We have several from the various trips/vacations we’ve taken. It’s neat to see where all we’ve been by looking at our fridge – I hope to add more to it soon!

Those things are cute. When we lived in Germany i would collect snowglobes or Decorative plates for each of the places we visited. Now that we’re back in the US, i don’t have anything cool like that to collect.

Didn’t know you lived in BC… you still in Canada? I love your collection, I find it really fun, cool, different, original and nerdy (I like nerdy things btw!). I don’t have a collection… oh no wait! I do! my recipe collection! does that count?!?!

  7. Those are cute!! I like collections as well but never have a place to put them! Hmmm, I should start a hundred dollar bill collection. haha

They aren’t silly at all. It isn’t the figurines you love, it is the memories they bring back! I say if you love it, own it, and be proud of it!

How cute are these! And the story behind them is even better :) Love it!

I think they are cute and very personal!! I actually collect gold charms for a charm bracelet that I got from my mom (with her charms on it). When my mother in law passed away, I got her charms, too. Now I can hardly life my arm!

I think that is a great collection! What a great way to remember a very special time in your life!! Besides, they don’t take up too much room. :)

What a wonderful collection! It sounds like you have found ways to add to it.

It’s cute, but it’s missing Rudolph… ;) I like the collection. I don’t think I collect anything, unless pictures count (and boy do we have a lot of pictures).

That’s so cute….I love things that aren’t “normal”

That’s just precious! As for me, I have a few collections. I collect cloth diapers. I collect vintage Barbie dolls (and started collecting that one with my grandmother when I was a little girl). I’m also the collector of family history information. :-)
