The world seen through the eyes of a child is often times different from an adult’s point of view. Children are shorter therefore they are always looking up. Whether adults are always either looking around or down at their own height. Often times we forget to actually see what surrounds us; but actually see and not simply look.
A. always goes through phases where he either loves the camera or he seriously hates it. One day he’ll ask me to take a photo of him and the next he will hide and get all fussy and cranky at best.
There have been days when he asks if he can use my camera and take photos with it. I often oblige and let him. I put the camera strap around his neck (tie it back with a hair band) and let him go about his business as he takes some photos. We’ve done this a few times and I wanted to share with you all what the world looks like through my 4 year old’s eyes.
He used my Nikon D40 on manual, therefore some photos are off focus but I find this to be even better than to have a perfect photo with all the correcnt numbers and stats for a perfect photo. Every time he took a photo he would look aat it and either approve or ask me to delete it. So if he felt the photo to be perfect, then perfect it is.
Last year I posted another set of photos from back when he was 3 and we still lived in Portland. Wow, does time fly! Seeing the world from my child’s perspective is beyond amazing.
Have you ever let your kids take photos with your camera? Would you?

great post! Thank you for that!
Cute! I should give my 4 year old the camera and see what she comes up with.
My son is 4 too!! You should really give it a try, you will surprised of all the silly things that catch their attention!! I have tons of photos of my kitchen’s appliances, the carpet, and the ceiling!
Haha- I like to give H the camera but she is only 4! Thanks for the wonderful post:) It is interesting to see life in their way.
My son is 4 too!! I always make sure to emphasize how valuable my camera is and how important is for him to be as careful as possible. I also make sure to have him use the strap and gather it to his length. So far there has been no problems *knocks on wood*. You should give it a try!
I don’t think I would let my kids use the DSLR but they do each have their own cameras. I love seeing what pictures they take, especially when they pose their stuffed animals.
What a sweet idea. When my little guy gets older, I’ll have to let him use my camera as well to take his own pictures. It would be cute for him to have his own little album of his photos.
Like always, you come up with the greatest ideas ever! I am so making him a book of his own photography!! You are genius!
What a neat idea for a post!
Yes, I let my kiddos use the camera when they are a bit older so it doesn’t get broken or settings messed with. My son loves photography.
This is the cutest i’ve seen! The idea is just super original and genius really! I love the pictures and it really gives a true reflection of a child’s thoughts and views! I LOVE your post!
I found it amusing that he felt the TV needed to be photographed!! I am now waiting for mister J. to get into playing with my camera!!
I have. I let my son borrow my camera to take pictures. We usually end up with a lot of self portraits, pics of the cats, and of his play cars, lol.
My toddler has been using my phone for pictures and games since he was 9-month-old! It is so rewarding to see the world thru the eyes of your child. Love flows eternally!
Beautiful!
That’s awesome! I frequently let my kids take pictures with my camera as well. They are teens now but this is something I have always done. It’s interesting to know the things that interest them
My 21month old daughter has fascination for gadgets, maybe given the chance she will also take pictures. This is an interesting post, maybe I will try this with her when she grows a little bigger…
What a great idea! Putting together all the pictures over the years into a book would be nice for any child to look back at when they are an adult.
JDaniel loves to take pictures. His tend to be blurry too.
Love this. I have dine something similar with my son. The problem I have now with my daughter is she sneaks my iPhone and takes LOTS of photos – which h is great – some of which she has figured out how to post to social media. Like one of me sleeping (unflattering to say the least). But I love seeing a child’s perspective through the lens.
Hehehe, thankfully my phone is not working!! My youngest loves to snap pictures of his toes with the iPad. He takes like 10 photos a second!! Thankfully he hasn’t figured out how to post them on his dad’s twitter account!
This is such a great idea, my kiddies all loved the camera.
My kids are always taking photos on my phone or iPad. My son just took 15 photos of his feet. I guess they were very funny that day. LOL. Its nice to view the world from their eyes at times.
My 3 year old does the very same thing!! I think he just likes the sound of the camera! Maybe our boys think their toes are very photogenic and cute!!
Hahaha – so funny! I have let my youngest son use my camera to take pictures and honestly, it was mostly butt shots. This is a great post idea & I may have to “borrow” this idea sometime
What a cool post! Seeing the perspective of your child (at any age) is so very important and I think so many people are so caught up in their lives they really never take the time. I like his view.
Cute idea!!
