Writer’s Block Sucks

By Tuesday, May 21, 2013 24 , , , , Permalink 0

I am stuck. And writer’s block sucks…big time and it is making me sad. Argh…what is worse is that there are days where I can write a full week’s worth of posts with out the need to ever blink.

But today…well, I am stuck as a duck in a truck (?).

Writer’s Block: stuck as a duck in a truck

Of course I Googled writer’s block to try to find something that would make my brain click. I thought it was going to be helpful but I am still scratching my head.

I did find a few ideas:

  • Take a walk outside: hmm….sorry, can’t. See, my boys are naping so I don’t think leaving them at home is such a good idea.
  • Pretend to talk to a monkey: I have two monkeys, one will actually sit on your head if you let him and his name is Mister J. (well, sort of). Therefore, talking to a monkey is not that unusual at my house.
  • Write five words and make sentences with them, and blah blah blah: all I can think is: socks, ketchup, writer’s block, nap, coffee. I doubt I can do much with that….
    • I did not take a nap because my writer’s block was caused by a hot cup of coffee with a sock full of ketchup.
  • Write non-stop for 10 minutes:  I doubt anyone would like to read a post about socks and ketchup  (these have always been the first two words that come to mind every time I am asked to think of a random word).
  • Write a poem about ___________: I don’t do poetry; no can’t do.Pass….NEXT!
  • Get ideas from other blogs: and by ideas…I mean ideas not simple copy-paste. And this is something I have done but today I just couldn’t find anything that made my fingers tap my keyboard with giddiness. Plus while perusing other blogs you can find new blogs worth reading!! 🙂
  • And my favorite…simply don’t write anything for a day or two…except I do want to write something like. now.

So instead I decided to write about why I am not following all the tips to overcome writer’s block. Sometimes you just can’t go out for a walk, not write, come with something fresh, and all you can think of is socks and ketchup.

Writer’s block sucks!

I always try to read something someone else has written or read the newspaper — it often inspires me!

Pretend to talk to a monkey! Ha! That is awesome!

I usually take my camera on a walk with me, and just start taking pictures. It can usually trigger something to write about.

Sorry to hear it. For writers block, you sure did write a lot 😉

I had a bout in March and I found blogging about it helped a lot. “Pretend to talk to a monkey”!? Let me know if that one works.

Feel free to write about the fact that my kids are currently running around the house, naked with stuffed animals. To be three again…

P.S. Have you checked your email 😉

I get out of the house with my laptop and go to my favorite park where there is no Wifi and sit at a pick nick table in the shade overlooking the water. I sit there watching the water and the birds for 10-15 minutes and then I start writing. I really feel I need to get away from all the distractions at home (like that pile of laundry or the unpacked luggage from our weekend trip lol!) and on the internet and then the ideas start flowing. good luck! 🙂

Got to be for me just getting away from it- doesn’t matter how out the house or inside doing some craft or even dare I say it cleaning but ti really helps to just not think about it for me x

Oh the good ole writer’s bloc! I’ll go to the park or something and make sure I have either my phone or a piece of paper in case I get an idea about something … anything …
I think we all go through them at one point.

I keep a running list just about everywhere I work (on my phone, on my computer, in my car, and in my purse) of topics so that whenever I am stumped I have literally dozens of ideas to choose from.

haha, yes – writer’s block sucks! I’ve definitely been suffering from it lately, but in all honesty I would rather spend the time snuggling up to our newest addition, anyway! 😉

I can so relate to this! I swear I do my best thinking in the shower or the bathroom. Maybe because it’s USUALLY the only place I have a quiet moment? I love your thought about ketchup and socks! So random, but kind of funny.

I hate struggling through writer’s block. I have found the only thing that works is to just walk away for a day.

I hate when that happens. I usually go outside or if I can take a ride, I try not to think about what to write, then maybe something will pop in my head.

I hate writer’s block! I have been having it because I am sick and my head feels like it is full of cotton. The weather has been stormy for days. I don’t really have a solution for myself when I go through writer’s block. I always just hope it goes away soon.

This sounds really lame but try playing with play dough or doing something mindless with your hands. A high school english teacher started me on this!
