We are not a routine oriented kind of family. As a matter of fact I find routines a bit tedious. I know that kids need it to some extent but I just can do the same thing at the same time every-single-day without wanting to pull my hair out. Still we fall into routine: breakfast, lunch, and dinner all happen about the same time; bed time is between 8 – 8:30 pm; walks before lunch or after dinner. So finding fun things to add a twist to every day life is something I look for. *Drum roll, please* FunBites has done just so: adding fun to our meals.
Who would have thought that cutting a peanut butter & jelly sandwich (sans the peanut butter) into tiny little square would make lunch time more fun?!
Fun times with FunBites
And here is where I must confess I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to use. Yeah…I am going to blame it on mommy-brains, yeah. But seriously, my 5 year old had a better idea on how to use it than I did.
It does look pretty straight forward: two simply pieces that go together. Simple. Gosh, the more I write about it the more silly I feel for not knowing how to do it! Oh man…
FunBites Instruction Video
The video is explained by little girls! I still had to watch it twice…while my son was staring at me as if mommy had gone insane (maybe I did).
Once my neurons decided to cooperate using FunBites was super easy (I did face palmed myself). I did the first sandwich and A. did his own. I loved the look of seriousness on his eyes…even did a little bit of a pout (which his dad does as well when concentrating, tee hee).
Ever since we got a Funbite cube cutter I have been using it a lot! And I do mean a lot. Now J., my 3 year old, asks me to please cut his into big squares. He refuses to eat the tiny squares now. But I still cut their sandwiches with our Funbite every now and then, specially on those days when they are spaced out on something else but their lunch.
It is so easy to use and even easier to clean: dishwasher!! I just pull the two pieces apart, toss them on the top rack in the dishwasher and presto! Now, if the dishwasher is not full, I just rinse the FunBites cutter and scrub it with a bottle scrubber and done. No fuss at all.
What I love about FunBites:
- It is cute.
- It is easy to use.
- It is so easy that even my boys can cut their sandwiches.
- Can cut any snack you can think of: watermelon, grilled cheese (yup! tried this one), tofu, cheese, pizza.
- Easy to clean.
- Small enough that won’t take a lot of storage space (I just toss it with my measuring cups/spoons, spatulas, whisks).
- My boys don’t like crusts on their sandwiches, and with FunBites there is way less waste.
What I do not like about FunBites
- There is no tiny heart shaped FunBite cutters…I would use it for myself. 😀 They do have triangles and hearts but no tiny individual hearts.

My son got something similar to this designed specifically for Hot dogs for his birthday. He started eating hot dogs again because it gave him food in a fun shape. So maybe this will help me get him to start eating sandwiches again!! I love how easy and fun it is for the kids.
