Recycled Newspaper Pencils I love finding innovative products that are not only the product of sheer genius but that are also great for the environment. And TreeSmart just so happens to be the latest brand to make it to my top 5 favorite eco-friendly companies.

A few days back I was contacted by TreeSmart offering me the great opportunity of reviewing a few of their office supplies. Of course I couldn’t say no! I mean, I have had my eyes on this company for a while now (1, 2 years maybe?) and being able to work together was something I always wanted to do.

TreeSmart: Recycled Newspaper School Supplies

I received 3 of their amazing recycled school and office supplies:

Recycled  Newspaper/Plastic Ruler

Recycled Newspaper/Plastic RulerI wish I owned a TreeSmart Recycled  Newspaper/Plastic Ruler back in my school days. Remember those flimsy, yucky, transparent plastic rulers from back then? You know, those that would break if you were to look at them the wrong way? Yeah, hated those rulers.

The TreeSmart not only is made from recycled newspaper and plastic, it is so thick I doubt it would ever break! See, this is, on its own, a great reason to own it.

Recycled Newspaper Pencils

Recycled Newspaper Pencils Recycled Newspaper PencilsTreeSmart started back in 1998, and these pencils were their very first product: hand rolled recycled newspaper pencils. Yup, you read that right, TreeSmart’s pencils are all hand rolled, every. single. one. of. them. Now that is what a call dedication.

Learn more about their process.

These pencils are awesome. I have yet to use them because they are just so pretty to look at (plus I still have a dozen left from my son’s school supply list). I just love these pencils. My favorite aspect is that you can actually see the newspaper used on each pencil. They could have easily painted over it with bio-degradable paint, but chose not to, leaving the newspaper sheet exposed. So, you can now read your pencil as you take notes.

Recycled Newspaper PencilsIf you look at the pencil and graphite you can see the rings of newspaper. These pencils remind me of a tree and its gorgeous rings, doesn’t it?

Recycled Newspaper Mini Colored Pencils

Recycled Newspaper Mini Colored Pencils The day we got the package in the mail, these Recycled Newspaper Mini Colored Pencils were claimed by my 5 year old son. I had to take them back, but there is a reason why, so bare with me!

Recycled Newspaper Mini Colored Pencils Recycled Newspaper Mini Colored PencilsThese pencils come in a small convenient storage Tube Case for easy carry…aka, these mini colored pencils are necessary in your purse. These pencils could easily help in case of a meltdown anywhere: restaurant, doctor’s office, grocery store, you name it. And that is why I took them back. Yeah, my son got a bit upset but he liked the idea of using them outside the house in case of an emergency!

And you have guess right….these, too, are all hand rolled. I simply love that you can see each layer of newspaper (makes me want to display them on a bookshelf instead of actually putting them to good use).

TreeSmart sounds like an AWESOME company! No wonder they made it into your list of top 5 eco-friendly companies out there.I really love that they are making such needed and practical items every kid uses out of recycled newspapers. A lot of office and school supplies could really learn a lot from them.

What a fabulous gift for teachers — a bunch of pencils wrapped with twine or raffia would be so cute! Thanks for sharing.
