Youth Basketball Season Begins!!

Youth Basketball Season has begun!!

Youth Basketball Season Yesterday was A.’s very first Basketball practice and it was so funny to watch! Why? Because he had no clue what Basketball is. He knew very little: bounce the ball, shoot for the hoop. Done. He was just not prepared for what hit him.

But being the sportsman that he is he figured it out right away….at least part of it.

Youth Basketball SeasonThe coach (in pink) is amazing! She was fast to set her ground, to get the attention of the kiddos (co-ed team) which was really helpful for the kids. From the get go they knew who is the boss and what to expect from her and the asst. coach.

The kids started warming up and learning the very FUNdamentals. Since all the kids, but 2, are new they had to start from the very beginning: how to properly shoot.

Youth Basketball Season Youth Basketball SeasonA. had a hard time with this since his arms are not strong enough to hold a basketball just yet. But he was persistent, he gave it his best and by the end of the practice you could see a bit of improvement.

Old teammates and buddies! Something that really helped was that some of his Flag Football teammates, and buddies, are in his Basketball team! This just made it more fun and doable.

Youth Basketball Season For a first time playing Basketball they all did so good!! The coaches actually told us, the parents, that this was their very first team to scrimmage on their very first practice! It was a blast. So, I might end up boring you guys with some Youth Basketball for the next few weeks (and trust me, I am so not a Basketball fan)!

What are your thoughts,
should kids be exposed to all sports or not?

Looks like a lot of fun, I miss sports being a part of school. I moved out of the town I grew up in and I don’t see sports in schools anymore. I have been on a look out for quite some time.

I say yes introduce as many as you can—gives them the option of liking it or not—I’m not the biggest fan of watching soccer…but I love playing–kids will not know unless they give it a try. Of course expecting them to become experts in them all is a little out there, but if they find one they love at these they gave the other spots a chance!

I am with you. We’ll give our son the opportunity of trying all sports for him to decide what he likes the most.

So much fun. I used to play basketball as a youth, myself.

I believe kids should try all sports. But I do not push.

It’s great that your little one is having fun and loving basketball and you must be so proud he did so well on his first time.

It is very nice for kids to learn this sports at a very young age.

We have been trying to figure out when the different sign ups are, you pretty much ave to know someone to get the information to sign up here. I hope your son has a great season.

I love teachers and coaches that are great with kids. Does she have kids as well?

  19. November 8, 2013 at 5:40 am

I think it is good and important for children to be involved in things but not always sports. I do think children’s input should be taken into account to a point.

  20. November 8, 2013 at 5:41 am

It is great to expose kids to sports at a early age because it teaches them to be responsible, work as part of a team and to be dependable.

  21. November 8, 2013 at 6:39 am

this is pretty cool, kids would love to learn more about sports. that would keep them in good and healthy ways.

  22. November 8, 2013 at 9:18 am

Ahh this takes me back! I used to play youth bball as a kid!

  23. November 8, 2013 at 9:32 am

My son love basketball but I can’t find a program here that he can join in.

  24. November 8, 2013 at 9:56 am

I am for teaching kids or exposing kids to all sports at such a young age. They have better advantage I think if you expose them that young. I have a boy and I am not sure yet what sports he is going to like. We hope basketball. How fun! I babysat my cousin one time and went with him to one of his summer basketball session and it was fun. :)
