Nightmares: Almost killed by a ghost

I don’t quite understand how the brain works. Nor the meaning of dreams, if they even have a meaning at all. But I often find myself researching what dreaming about snakes means, or what is the meaning behind almost being ran over by a deceased relative. Sometimes these meanings make sense but most times they simply don’t. Dreaming of a ghost means something that is no longer obtainable or within reach. But it also could mean that you should move on and abandon your outdated modes of thinking and behavior.

Let me share with you my worst nightmare -to date. It was scary and felt quite real…which makes nightmares that much worse than necessary.

Nightmares: Almost killed by a ghost

It started with me, along with my husband and sons, walking into our new home which I inherited from my Grandfather. As we walked into the house I noticed this picture of my Grandfather on top of the mantle (of course, this man is not my Grandfather in real life).

The next morning I felt this presence and as soon as I realized that said presence was a ghost/spirit and that it belonged to my Grandfather I was picked up by the throat and slammed into the closet (which looked just like my Grandma -who may rest in peace). I freaked out and tried to scream but I couldn’t. It felt as if I had swallowed my tongue.

Next scene was of me telling Tyler that there was a ghost in the house and that it was trying to harm me. We spent that night somewhere else. We decided to move out of the house immediately and went to pick up all our belongings that afternoon.

I felt so uneasy being there. I knew I was being watched. When we were about to leave (I recall my husband shaving in the bathroom) I received a text saying “Are you ready to play? 9:42pm”. Somehow the ghost got his hands on an iPhone!

It was then that I realized it was a dream…odd thing was, I couldn’t wake up. I tried to yell in real life to get myself to wake up. But it felt as if I has swallowed my tongue.

I turned to tell Tyler that we had to leave and I showed him the phone. We managed to get the boys out of the house and into the car when I was pulled back inside and the house caught on fire. Thankfully I managed to snap out of the dream at this point; I might have also hit my husband on the chest as I jumped awake.

I have never been so scared after a dream. It was such a terrifying dream, I cried.

Have you ever had a nightmare that haunted you for days?

I haven’t had many nightmares at all, but the few that I have had were forgotten quickly.

Oh my, what a crazy creepy dream! My most haunting dreams came to me while I was pregnant! Both times! I am not sure how pregnancy brings along such crazy nightmares to me, but it did.

Oh those pregnancy dreams. It is all due to the hormones, they make your dreams more vivid and seem more real. I remember having quite interesting dreams while pregnant, no nightmares though, but I have long forgotten them! Oh, also, meds can give you weird dream!

    very spooky!

  4. November 22, 2013 at 11:59 am

I’ve had dreams where I woke up crying or cried about them too. :( How different though that you realized it was a dream while you were dreaming!

That’s terrifying. At least it was only a dream!

  7. November 22, 2013 at 1:32 pm

Luckily I dont have nightmares very often but this sounded really scary

  8. November 22, 2013 at 2:12 pm

I haven’t had many memorable dreams in a while let alone a spooky one. But I do recall trying to scream and nothing comes out in nightmares… I’m fascinated by dreams and could read about them all the time and wonder why do our brains do this…

  9. November 22, 2013 at 2:48 pm

I know I have dreams and even once in a while a nightmare, but I never remember what it is about. Yours sounds really scary..

  10. November 22, 2013 at 4:19 pm

You sound like me. For a while now, I keep dreaming that we are in the beach and bad guys attacked us, now I am scared everytime we go somewhere.

I can totally understand how you feel because I’ve had nightmares too. A lot of weird scenes going on in our dreams huh? Anyway, Biblically, nightmares have no meanings at all. Well, in bible times there were loyal ones who have dreams like prophesies but they were all guided by holy spirit.

I had some weird dreams when I was pregnant with my youngest son. Thankfully at this point I don’t remember them. :)

I hate nightmares!! So sorry you had a scary dream like that. Hope you have better dreams tonight.

I had nightmares all the time as a child. It was horrible. I guess I had an overactive imagination. I had recurring dreams too that were just plain weird…

My scariest nightmare was actually as an adult, back in 2010. I was living alone at the time, and I dreamed there was a person in my apartment, right outside my room, in my hallway. It was just a dark figure standing there. I tried to move/sit up and yell, but I couldn’t…I just laid there in terror, frozen.

Eventually I slowly woke up and realized I’d been dreaming.

Okay, it doesn’t sound that scary now that I’m reading it, but it was!

  15. November 23, 2013 at 3:53 am

That is quite a dream and I think I would be shaken up too. I research what dreams mean from time to time but not sure I believe in it, but it is fun to read.

I have had terrible nightmares throughout my life. One of the scariest ones I can remember is when I was only 5 years old and had a high fever and my parents said it was a combo of dreaming and hallucinating because of the fever but I woke up screaming because things were chasing me then as I ran downstairs the floor was opening up behind me and trying to suck me into Hell. It still scares me to think of it!

way to ruin sleep! LOL that’s not fun

  18. November 23, 2013 at 4:59 am

Your nightmare seems scary indeed. I am glad you woke up and were able to write about it and try to analyze things.

  19. November 23, 2013 at 7:40 am

Very creepy and would terrify you indeed. That’s crazy dreams sometimes there are bad evils that can’t harm us physically so they do that while we are sleeping. there are so many reading about dreams, i myself encounter nightmares and things sometimes happen… but after that, all i do or i always end up fighting with evil and ends up praising the God, mentioning his name and prayers which makes me feel better and freed me from that evil dreams.

I had nightmares years ago, for 3 straight days, I felt the way you do, like I can’t yell or scream or try to wake up. It was after watching the movie The Ring. It was so scary for me. But I always have bad dreams, I always find myself being chased or running, but feels that my feet and legs are too heavy to carry or feel like it’s so hard to take a step like having a heavy weight is attached to my legs! It’s really scary.

  21. November 23, 2013 at 9:06 pm

Oh my goodness! You could make a horror movie out of your nightmare. I for one have a story of my own. I have had some nightmares where I couldn’t move and I was awake, but my eyes were closed and my brains telling my body to move, but it wouldn’t until I said a verse from a bible and I woke up from a nightmare. I had a nightmare at our neighbors house when me and some friends were babysitting… it was an old lady that came up and choke me and I couldn’t move and finally was able to scream and my friends woke me up. They didn’t believe me and laughed at me. Oh dear! My mom on the other hand believed me and told me to always pray before sleeping. My nightmare happened again some years ago at our old house and my husbad was outside the house because it was during the afternoon. Scary! I have had some paranormal experiences as well at the house I stayed at when I went to college. Somehow, I am not strangers to paranormal things. Anyway, it is a good thing you woke up and it was just a dream.

Wow, the one with the old lady choking you sounds creepy. Yikes…I’m with you, I’ve had some other paranormal things happening to me before.

  22. November 25, 2013 at 10:42 am

That is so creepy. i just had my worst nightmare to. I was drowning and it felt all so real.

  23. November 25, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Ohh my that is a horrifying nightmare, I got goosebumps just reading about it!

  24. November 26, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I’m kind of fascinated now by the meaning behind dreaming about a ghost. Wonder if that is connected to the phrase “give up the ghost”? Hmm. Now I’m off to research!
