There are a few recipes in my repertoire that we love to eat but that could still be better. It is just silly little things that could change your take in life; take for example: bacon wrapped chicken with cream cheese and asparagus filling. It is the most delicious and moist chicken ever! So, where’s the problem you say? The bacon touching the baking dish does not cook properly and does not crisp at all (which my bacon-loving husband dislikes). So when I was approached and offered a Pyramid Mat to review I could not say no.
I had never heard of the Pyramid Mat prior to this review. But in my defense: I rarely watch TV (and when I do is because my husband is “watching” one of his DVRd shows as he sleeps) so I have never seen its infomercial. But I am glad I was introduced to it.
What is the Pyramid Mat?
The Pyramid Pan is a clever cooking mat made up of 556 mini pyramids that hold food up allowing for it to cook without sitting in pools of grease and fat. It also acts as a convection oven allowing for heat to circulate over and under the food. This allows for your food to cook even as well as locking in juices.
Thanks to the Pyramid Pan there is no hassle in cooking. There is no more need to turn food over to make sure that the top and bottom is cooked perfectly. Now your favorite dishes will cook evenly without having to flip them time and time again.

Bacon and the Pyramid Pan
So, I digress. Bacon.
We were able to fit 8 slices of bacon. I guess the amount will vary depending on the type and brand of bacon you get (we got ours at Costco). Once laid out and looking all pretty they went into the oven.
Of course I had to sneak a peek every now and then. This was our very first time making bacon in the oven so it was a completely different experience. I must say that I truly missed the sizzle of the bacon grease (did not miss the cleaning up part at all!).
After a few minutes, can’t actually pin point how many of them were required since I was not in charge of the bacon making, the bacon made its grand appearance (after the picture right above this paragraph we put the bacon back again for 5 extra minutes to make it extra crispy but was not able to snap another photo -we thrive on bacon).
The bacon was not as crunchy as if we would have fried it on a pan. But that is so not the point of using the Pyramid Pan. Thanks to the Pyramid Pan we were able to make the rest of the breakfast while the bacon cooked in the oven. Not only that. But the bacon was not as greasy as if pan fried, I didn’t have grease all over my stove top (and microwave) to clean, and there was no need to flip the bacon at all -both top and bottom were cooked perfectly.
