Frederico, the Mouse Violinist is a new book written by Myra Calvani (award-winning author for children and adults). Her love for the violin has inspired her to pen multiple violin stories for children, among them The Magic Violin and the forthcoming, The Doll Violinist.
Frederico is a tiny mouse with a big dream: he wants to become a violinist. Each day he watches as Stradivari makes his famous violins. Each night, he sneaks into the workshop to play. But the violins are too big! Then, unbeknown to Frederico, Stradivari sees him playing and begins carving a tiny device. Could it be a famous Strad especially for Frederico?”
I have always wanted to learn to play the piano. Growing up we did not have the money for it. I never complained. I love violin music over all other instruments. Piano may be a short second.
I was excited to review Frederico, the Mouse Violinist for this exact reason. I thought, maybe if I read this book to my boys they might grow up wanting to learn it, ’cause I am seriously not going to impose my dream on them. They surely have a mind of their own.
The book is pretty adorable. It tells you the story of a little mouse who finds a violin. Page by page you learn the part of a violin, the peg, the f-whole, fingerboard. And the illustrations are amazing.
J really liked this book the best. He has always been into letters and drawings since day one. He launched himself at my computer almost knocking it over while trying to touch Frederico!
I truly recommend this book geared for kids aged 3-8. It is a good way to let our kids explore beyond their horizon and into instrumental music.
