{Journey Gym} Fitness Challenge: Day 5

I’m sore. And sweaty. And did I mention sore?! Yup, I am at it once more! I just finished working out on my Journey Gym! My leg muscles still feel hot! And I am starting to discover muscles I didn’t even know where there!!

Today I worked out to the rhythm of the 10 minute circuit training. I am sore! Oh, yeah, I already mentioned that! I am still amazed what 10 minutes can do! My heart beat raised, I sweated, got pumped and feel so much more energetic!

Last update I shared with you what the 20 minute work out is all about. Well, today I recorded my 10 minute work out and I want to share it with you.

The plank is the death of me! And working out on the carpet with socks on is a total no no! I kept slipping and well, I am not so good at it…I work out my muscles so hard that I start shaking and it hurts!

But that’s a good thing. It proves that I am working out the right way and that my muscles are actually doing their work. I will be sore for a while now! Woohoo!! :D Yeah, sore is good!

But what excites me the most is that my obliques is the muscle that hurts the most! Pretty soon, if I keep up with my Journey Gym routine, I will have a flat tummy again!! And I have noticed that after these 5 days of work out I have improved my posture which is also in need of some serious help!

I’ve never been the flexible kind. I mean, yeah I can still touch my nose with my toes but that was about it. But last night, I have no clue what I was doing, I realized that I could finally stretch my leg up high and without bending my knees!! And it did not hurt. I was actually able to raise my leg and touch my toes with my hand! I was laying down in bed but it still counts, right?!

Before we even know it Journey Gym’s workout video remix feature will be done and I will be the first one to create a workout with my favorite exercises!! And of course I will share it with you! :D

And before I leave to take a shower, let me remind you about our Journey Gym giveaway! Maybe you’ll be the lucky winner and then we can be workout partners!

{Journey Gym} Fitness challenge: Update

I just came back from walking Scratch and man am I sore!! I worked out on my Journey Gym yesterday morning and I can still feel it! Right now, as I type, I can feel my triceps hurting! And as I walked with Scratch I could feel my upper leg muscles (like the bicep femoris, hehehe makes me feel smart saying it!). So rest assured that working out with the Journey Gym does, in fact, work!

I was going to work out downstairs but it was taken by the boys…that’s what happens when mommy sleeps in! I usually move the coffee table and put the CD in the PS3 and workout in the living room. But today I decided to take my Journey Gym and my laptop upstairs. I worked out in my bedroom, between our King size bed, our dresser and the bathroom door! Super easy!! Next thing you know I’ll be working out in our back yard on a bright sunny day while watching the video on my laptop! And a jug of freshly made lemonade will be waiting for me…

The 20 minute video is my favorite! Take a look at it and see for yourself how easy and fast paced working out with the Journey Gym can be!

Total Circuit Strength from journey gym on Vimeo.

OK, I lied. There is one specific exercise I can not do for the life of me: T-pushup. I can barely do a pushup let alone do one, turn sideways and lift my arm up to a T! I’ll have to cheat on this one and try to do a pushup on my knees. And I still have to learn how to breathe!

I haven’t worked out to a video before except the P90X one which feels so impersonal to me. All the guy does is show off his muscles and talk to his team. Whether on the Journey Gym videos the trainers talks directly to you! Amy Jo (10 minute trainer) will say ‘good job’ all the time and giving small tips on how to do each exercise, i.e., focus on the muscle you are working out. Glen Baggerly, aka the Bowflex Guy, will give you words of encouragement: ‘do the best you can’ and ‘don’t stop, slow down’. He will also show alternate ways to do some of the exercises.

Journey Gym is currently working on a great feature on their website. Ina few days you’ll be able to visit their site and create your very own video! :D You’ll have a great selection of exercises and you’ll be able to mix them up and create the circuit training that suits you best!

And before you go, make sure to enter my Journey Gym giveaway!

JOURNEY GYM: Fitness Challenge {Review/Giveaway}

A few days back I challenged my self to be better, to feel better, to put my words and thoughts into action. It is easy to talk and even easier not to act upon those words. But today it has changed. Today I began my challenge.

As you might remember from my fitness challenge post I will be working out using the new Journey Gym, which is not only portable but also easy to install and even easier to use.

The Journey Gym looks just like a suit case which makes it portable. Every single piece needed for your workout is in the case: legs, handles, bands. Even a CD with 2 basic workouts is included! You can always access over 140 exercise videos at Journey Gym.

As you may have noticed there are 3 different band colors. Each band has a different resistance which when combined can go from 5 to 100 pounds per side. the orange bands are light, the blue are medium and the green are heavy. Since I am just starting my workout I am starting with the orange bands and seeing as they offer the lowest resistance I am using both on each side…using one feels like cheating. And as I improve I will add more and more resistance to my workout.

And just to remind us where I am starting, this is me:

The Journey Gym alternates strength and cardio. That’s why there are 8 legs so you can use your Journey Gym as a step. On every routine it is recommended to alternate between strength exercises and cardio.

I decided to start with the 10 minute circuit training which (here’s a video for the exact workout I did). You get 60 seconds to do every exercise. Just remember that it is quality over quantity. It is better to do them right than to do a lot wrong ones.

The workout started with squats using both orange cables at shoulder level. The correct squat makes a 90 Degree between your butt and your legs. Open your legs at shoulder level and squat. You’ll find that you have to lean your chest a bit forward to gain some balance. Go slow.

Moving on to a basic step. Basic cardio. Then the side bend using both handles. Remember to focus on the muscle you are working with and BREATHE! I found out that I need to learn how to breathe correctly!

Cardio again! Corner to corner and make sure the knee goes up and that you cover the entire gym. You will now start feeling the burn! Heart rate should be going up by now.

Now, I had a bit of practical difficulties with this next exercise, the twisting overhead press. You start by squating and as you stand up you press making sure to twist and extend your arm instead of doing it over your head. Rotate from the core, not spine.

The hop step was my favorite! It reminded me of the few weeks when I joined my mom at her aerobics classes! They were so much fun! Another twisting overhead press. High knees, 5 on each corner. And before you even notice, you only have 60 more seconds to go…60 very painful, but well worth it, seconds!

We like to call it, the plank. It was extremely hard, I won’t lie. But after this minutes is up you are done! And don’t forget to cool down…and you can then go on with your daily routine!

Tyler and I have agreed on taking 10 minutes off our morning routine to work out and 10 more minutes after the boys go to bed. And let me tell you, honestly, it does work! Those 10 minutes worked. My knees are still shaking from my workout from 2 hours ago! I can feel my legs give a bit while I try to go up and down the stairs!

Journey Gym {Behind the scenes}

As you might know I am working with Journey Gym on my fitness challenge. Yesterday they gave me the opportunity of sneaking behind the scenes of their workout video shooting! And it was so much fun!

Tyler and I arrived @ the John Ross building in downtown Portland. The day was looking promising as promising as it can get her in Portland, meaning no rain. But our luck soon changed and it poured and hailed! Lucky me I was wearing flip flops! My feet ended soaked and cold.

As we waited for the crew to arrive we decided to walk around the block in search of coffee which was nowhere to be seen! Every single restaurant and coffee shop was closed. So on our way back we met Glen Baggerly, also known as The Bowflex Guy! ;)

I also got to meet Kim Lyons from The Biggest Loser!

The crew had just come back from filming down at the park, I am guessing the Waterfront Park but not 100% sure. We all headed to the Penthouse where they would be filming more videos. And let me tell you, the penthouse was amazing!

The crew brought pizza which was not appetizing for everyone so we headed for some sushi. Tyler and I had just had dinner so we simply joined them. Have you ever heard of a restaurant that will up sell you to then take 50% off your total bill? Yeap. We simply had to order a few drinks and got half off the bill!

By the time we got back the crew had gathered all their equipment around the living room and we all helped with staging the room. There were cameras everywhere and they had to figure out where to put the Journey Gyms. The whole idea was to shoot before the sunlight was gone but by the time everything was set it was past beyond that point.

Kim went through her script with her back up workout buddies. And that guy laying on the floor, that’s John, the master mind behind Journey Gym. And I am pretty sure he can be spotted in every single photo I took!

While we waited for the shoot to start I got a chance to snap some photos with both Glen and Kim.

And let me tell you, they are the nicest people ever! Would you believe that Kim has a 10 month old boy?! She looks amazing! And Glen looks great as well. Being at the shoot gave me more self confidence on my challenge. I now know that it won’t be a hard challenge to achieve. I just have to put my all into it. I mean, if Kim can look that good after 10 months of giving birth we all can, right?!

I would have loved to stay a bit longer but it was late and the boys where at Grandma’s house and it was time for them to go to sleep.

Thanks to John and Niton (host) for having us over!! We had a blast!
